Proxies for YouTube

Search, recommendations and ads on YouTube depend on the viewer's country. A proxy from the right country shows the platform the way your audience sees it, and a stable address helps you manage several channels without trouble.

What proxies are used for on YouTube

YouTube adapts to the viewer: search results, recommendations, trends and ad impressions differ in Ukraine, Poland and Germany. From your office you only see your own version of the platform.

Here a proxy is a work tool for marketing and analytics. It helps with four tasks: managing brand and client channels from separate browser profiles, checking how videos and ads look in another country, researching trends and competitors by country, and collecting data carefully.

What this page does not cover: unblocking YouTube, getting around regional viewing restrictions, inflating views, likes and subscribers, or downloading videos. A proxy is not meant for that, and we do not describe such scenarios.

Several brand and client channels

Agencies and SMM specialists often run several channels at once: their own, a client's, a channel for a separate product. It is convenient to keep each one in its own antidetect browser profile, with its own cookies, settings and address. We explain what such a browser is in the glossary, and step-by-step setup for popular programs is in the guides section.

Signing in to a Google account needs a stable address. In the generator, choose the "Sticky session" mode: ports 10000-20000 hold one IP for 1 to 120 minutes, 30 by default. Assign each profile its own port and the country where the channel operates, for example Ukraine for a Ukrainian brand and Germany for a German one.

Residential proxies ($1.59 per GB) and mobile ones ($2.50 per GB) are a good fit: these are addresses of home internet providers and mobile carriers. Keep in mind that a sticky residential or mobile IP can change before the time is up if the device goes offline; the port then gets a new address in the same country. More on working with several profiles is in the multi-accounting use case.

Videos and ads through the eyes of a viewer in another country

Before launching a campaign, it helps to see what the viewer will get. Open YouTube in a clean profile without signing in, through a proxy from the right country, and check:

  • where your video ranks in search for your key queries;
  • whether it appears in recommendations next to competitors' videos;
  • whether your ad is shown, before which videos, and where the link leads;
  • how the thumbnail, title and description look in the country's language.

Ad checks are covered in detail in the ad verification use case. Remember that recommendations depend heavily on watch history, so compare results in clean profiles.

Trends and competitors by country

YouTube search results for the same query differ between the UK and the US: different creators, different formats, different video lengths. If you are preparing content for a foreign market, start with what people there already watch.

Select a country in the generator and go through the key queries in your niche, the trending section and your competitors' channels. If you need the picture for a specific region or city, switch on advanced mode and specify it. Traffic with precise geo (region, city, ZIP or carrier (ASN)) is counted double, so for an overall view of a country a regular country selection is enough.

Data collection through the official API

For regular data collection (channel statistics, video lists, comments) YouTube has the official YouTube Data API. Use it wherever possible: it is more predictable than crawling pages and complies with the platform's rules. Google sets the API quotas and terms, and a proxy does not change them.

If the API is not enough for checking results by country, keep your request rate moderate and follow YouTube's terms of use. The "Rotating (new IP per request)" mode suits this work: port 823 (HTTP) or 824 (SOCKS5). A plan allows up to 1000 concurrent connections, but this task does not need that many: frequent requests will lead to a CAPTCHA sooner than to results.

Video uses a lot of traffic

This is the main thing to keep in mind. Traffic is counted in both directions, and video is the heaviest content on the internet: one high-quality video can cost hundreds of megabytes, and an hour of viewing several gigabytes.

  • Do not watch whole videos through the proxy: to check search results and ads, the page and the first seconds of the video are enough.
  • Set the lowest playback quality in the browser profile.
  • Turn off autoplay so the next video does not start on its own.
  • Set a traffic limit in the plan settings, per hour or per day, with a stop or a warning.

The traffic calculator helps you estimate the volume, and the gigabytes you buy never expire. Prices are on the pricing page.

What to know in advance

  • A proxy does not override YouTube and Google rules: restrictions on accounts, ads and content apply as usual.
  • We do not promise that the platform will accept a particular address: it makes access decisions itself.
  • Calls, online games and anything that runs over UDP do not go through the proxy.
  • The pool is shared: another customer may have used an address before you. The anonymity filter in the pool settings excludes IPs that sites have already flagged as proxy or VPN.
  • Payment services and banks are blocked through the proxy for all customers, so pay for ads from your regular connection. The list is on the blocked sites page.

FAQ

Which proxies should I use for YouTube channels?

Residential or mobile in the "Sticky session" mode: each browser profile gets its own port and the country where the channel operates.

Can I check how a video looks in another country?

Yes. Select a country in the generator and open YouTube in a clean profile without signing in: you will see the search position, recommendations and ads.

How much traffic does YouTube use?

A lot: an hour of high-quality viewing is several gigabytes. Do not watch whole videos, set low quality and a traffic limit in the plan settings.

Can I collect YouTube data through a proxy?

Wherever possible, use the official YouTube Data API. Google sets its quotas and terms, and a proxy does not change them.

Do you guarantee access to YouTube through a proxy?

No. The platform sets the access rules, and we have no influence over them.
