Your dashboard generates ready-made lines in the format you need: choose the country, IP type and protocol.

Key takeaways
  • Host gw.prokso.com, ports 823 (HTTP), 824 (SOCKS5), 10000–20000 (sticky sessions, HTTP or SOCKS5)
  • The username and password are in your dashboard on the plan page
  • After setup, check your IP on the My IP page

A step-by-step guide to connecting Prokso proxies on Android. It takes a few minutes.

Step 1. Get the proxy details from your dashboard

Open your plan and copy the host gw.prokso.com, port, username and password. Port 823 is HTTP and 824 is SOCKS5 (both give a new IP for every request); ports 10000–20000 keep one IP (sticky session) for up to 120 minutes and work as both HTTP and SOCKS5 (each port is a separate address). Set the country in the username: username__cr.ua.

Step 2. Get an HTTP line for the phone

Android's Wi-Fi settings accept HTTP proxies only. Port 823 gives a new IP for every request, which is fine for browsing. If you sign in to an account in an app, choose HTTP and “Sticky session” in the generator to get a sticky-session port (10000–20000) with one IP.

Step 3. Open your Wi-Fi network

Go to Settings → Network & internet → Internet or Wi-Fi (depending on your Android version). Tap the gear icon next to the connected network, then the pencil (Edit) icon.

Step 4. Turn on a manual proxy

Expand Advanced options and set Proxy to Manual. Fields for the host, port and exceptions appear below.

Step 5. Enter the host and port

Put gw.prokso.com in Proxy hostname and 823 or your sticky port in Proxy port. You can leave Bypass proxy for empty. Tap Save.

Step 6. Sort out the username and password

Android has no proxy password field. Chrome asks for the username and password when you open the first website — paste them from your dashboard. Apps don't show such a prompt, so for them switch on the IP whitelist: add your Wi-Fi network's public IP address in the dashboard (up to 5 addresses per plan).

Step 7. Check in Chrome on the phone

While still on Wi-Fi, open the My IP page in Chrome on the same phone. It should show the proxy's IP address and country. If you see your own address, check that the phone hasn't switched to mobile data.

What exactly goes through the proxy

A proxy from the Wi-Fi settings applies to the browser and to apps that respect the system settings. Some apps ignore them and go online directly. You can tell from the plan statistics in your dashboard: if an app is working but traffic is not growing, it is bypassing the proxy.

The setting is tied to a specific Wi-Fi network. It does not exist on another network or on mobile data.

If pages stopped opening

  • The phone switched to mobile data. Check the Wi-Fi icon in the status bar.
  • Port 824 is entered. Android understands only HTTP in the Wi-Fi settings, so use 823 or a sticky port with the HTTP protocol.
  • The login prompt did not appear. The browser shows it, but apps do not. Turn on access by IP: add the external address of your Wi-Fi network on the plan page in your dashboard.
  • The network's external IP has changed. Home internet providers change it after a router restart. Update the address in the IP whitelist.
  • A space in the hostname. The phone keyboard tends to add one after pasting.

How much traffic it will take

A phone spends traffic on more than what you open yourself: app updates, syncing, and background requests will go through the proxy too. While you work through the proxy, turn off automatic app updates over Wi-Fi and close anything you do not need. The traffic calculator will help you estimate the usage.

FAQ

Why are my menu names different?

Samsung, Xiaomi and other brands label menus differently. The Proxy item is almost always in the advanced options of the specific Wi-Fi network.

Does the proxy work on mobile data?

No, the setting is tied to a Wi-Fi network. For mobile data you need a separate proxy app.

An app doesn't ask for a password and doesn't work. What now?

Switch on the IP whitelist: add your Wi-Fi network's public IP address in the dashboard. Then no username or password is needed.

How do I turn the proxy off?

In the same network settings set Proxy to None. The phone goes direct right away.

Do I need root access?

Not for a proxy in the Wi-Fi settings. Apps that send all of the phone's traffic through a proxy usually work as a local VPN and do not require root either.

Can I set the country right on the phone?

The country is set in the username. Generate a string for the country you need in your dashboard and use the username from it.
