Your dashboard generates ready-made lines in the format you need: choose the country, IP type and protocol.

Key takeaways
  • Host gw.prokso.com, ports 823 (HTTP), 824 (SOCKS5), 10000–20000 (sticky sessions, HTTP or SOCKS5)
  • The username and password are in your dashboard on the plan page
  • After setup, check your IP on the My IP page

A step-by-step guide to connecting Prokso proxies on Windows. It takes a few minutes.

Step 1. Get the proxy details from your dashboard

Open your plan and copy the host gw.prokso.com, port, username and password. Port 823 is HTTP and 824 is SOCKS5 (both give a new IP for every request); ports 10000–20000 keep one IP (sticky session) for up to 120 minutes and work as both HTTP and SOCKS5 (each port is a separate address). Set the country in the username: username__cr.ua.

Step 2. Open the proxy settings

Click Start → Settings → Network & Internet → Proxy.

Step 3. Turn on manual setup

Under Manual proxy setup click Set up and turn on Use a proxy server.

Step 4. Enter the address and port

Address gw.prokso.com, port 823 (a new IP for every request) or a sticky 10000–20000 port if you need one IP. In the exceptions field keep local addresses, for example localhost;127.*;192.168.*. Click Save.

Step 5. Sign in

Windows doesn't store a proxy password: your browser asks for the username and password on the first request. For apps without such a prompt, switch on the IP whitelist.

Step 6. Check that it works

Open the My IP page: it should show the proxy's IP address and country, not yours. If the connection fails, double-check the port and protocol, and look up error codes on the Error codes page.

What the Windows system proxy applies to

The proxy configured in Settings applies to browsers and to programs that read the system settings. Many programs ignore them: games, some messengers, torrent clients, and command-line utilities. Such programs will keep going online directly.

If you need to send a specific program or all of the computer's traffic through the proxy, use a proxy manager such as Proxifier: it intercepts program connections and can work with SOCKS5 and a password.

If the internet stopped working after you turned the proxy on

  • A typo in the address or port. The address is gw.prokso.com without http:// at the start, and the port is digits only.
  • Port 824 is entered. It works as SOCKS5, while the Windows system proxy is HTTP. Use 823 or a sticky port.
  • The program does not ask for a password. Browsers show a login prompt, but other programs need access by IP: add your address to the "IP whitelist (no password)" block on the plan page.
  • Your external IP has changed. With access by IP this is a common cause: your internet provider assigned a new address, and it is not in the IP whitelist. Update it in your dashboard.

Do not forget to turn it off

While the proxy is on, Windows updates, cloud drive syncing, and background requests from programs all go through it. All of that spends your plan's traffic. When you are done, turn off the "Use a proxy server" switch.

FAQ

How do I switch the proxy off quickly?

Turn off Use a proxy server in the same place — traffic goes direct right away.

Does the system proxy apply to all browsers?

To Chrome, Edge, and other browsers that use the system settings, yes. Firefox also takes the system settings by default, but you can set its own there, and then it will go its own way.

Can I set different proxies for different programs?

Not with Windows tools alone: there is only one system proxy. For per-program rules you need a proxy manager.

How can I tell that a program is bypassing the proxy?

If the program has a built-in browser or shows the IP, check there. Otherwise look at the plan statistics in your dashboard: traffic should grow while the program is running.
