Proxies for eBay

eBay runs separate sites for different countries, each with its own prices, listings and shipping terms. A proxy from the right country shows the marketplace the way a local buyer sees it.

Why eBay sellers and analysts use proxies

eBay is not one site but several national ones: ebay.com for the US, ebay.co.uk for the UK, ebay.de for Germany, ebay.pl for Poland and others. Search results, currency, shipping costs and even the set of available listings depend on which site the buyer is on and which country they are browsing from.

A proxy comes in handy for four tasks: tracking prices and sold listings across eBay sites, researching competitors, checking your own listings as a buyer from another country sees them, and signing in to your seller account from a stable address in its country.

The rules first

eBay has rules on multiple accounts and on getting around restrictions. eBay prohibits creating a new account to get around a suspension, a selling restriction or limits. A proxy is not meant for that: the platform sees not just the IP but also documents, payment details and sales history.

If your account is restricted, resolve it through eBay customer service. We do not describe ways to get around bans.

Prices and sold listings by country

To understand an item's real market price, sellers look not only at active listings but also at completed sales. On ebay.de and ebay.co.uk, prices, competitors and demand for the same item can differ a lot - this helps you decide where to list and at what price.

For each site, use an IP from its country: Germany for ebay.de, the UK for ebay.co.uk, Poland for ebay.pl, the US for ebay.com. That way you see prices in the local currency and the shipping a local buyer gets. For one-off research, a plain country selection in the generator is enough.

For regular crawling of a large number of listings, the "Rotating (new IP per request)" mode works well: port 823 (HTTP) or 824 (SOCKS5) gives a new address for every request. A plan allows up to 1000 concurrent connections, but start with a small number of threads and scale up gradually. More in the price monitoring use case.

For regular data collection, eBay offers official developer APIs. Use them wherever you can: they are more predictable than crawling pages and comply with the platform's rules. eBay sets the API limits and terms, and a proxy does not change them.

Competitor research

Before entering a new market, it pays to see who already sells there. With a German or Canadian IP, run searches for your keywords and pay attention to:

  • which sellers rank at the top and how much feedback they have;
  • which formats they use: auction or Buy It Now;
  • how much shipping costs and how long it takes;
  • how titles, photos and descriptions are written in the local language.

If shipping to a specific region matters, turn on advanced mode and specify a region, city or ZIP. Traffic with precise geo (region, city, ZIP or carrier (ASN)) is counted double, so turn it on only where the address actually affects the result.

Your listings as a buyer from another country sees them

You sell from Poland, but a buyer in the UK sees your listing differently: in pounds, with their own shipping cost and possibly lower in search than local sellers. Through a UK proxy, open ebay.co.uk in a clean profile without signing in and find your listing by its keywords.

Check whether the listing shows up at all, whether shipping is calculated correctly and where you rank in search. If you run promoted listings, the same method shows where the sponsored listings appear. How this kind of check works is covered in the ad verification use case.

For one-off checks, the "Sticky session" mode on a port in the 10000-20000 range is convenient: the whole check runs from one address.

Your seller account from a stable address

If the account is registered in Germany and you or your team work from another country, frequent changes of address and country look suspicious to the platform. A proxy helps you sign in to your account from a stable address in the account's country.

Use residential proxies at $1.59 per GB or mobile ones at $2.50 per GB in the "Sticky session" mode: the port holds one IP for 1 to 120 minutes, 30 by default. Keep the account in a separate browser profile with its own port. A sticky residential or mobile IP can change early if the device goes offline - the port then gets a new address in the same country.

If you also sell on other platforms, compare the approach with proxies for Amazon and the general principles in the marketplaces use case.

What to know in advance

  • A proxy does not override eBay's rules: limits on accounts, selling and data collection apply as usual.
  • We do not promise that the platform will accept a particular address: that access decision is the platform's own.
  • Banks and payment systems are blocked through our proxies - handle payouts from your usual connection. The list is on the blocked sites page.
  • Collect only public listing data, with no personal data of buyers or sellers.

How much traffic you need

A listing page with a photo gallery weighs several megabytes, and price analysis does not need images. Turn off their loading, and usage will drop noticeably. Traffic is counted in both directions. The traffic calculator helps you estimate the volume; datacenter proxies at $0.80 per GB are worth a try for small volumes, and prices for all types are on the pricing page.

FAQ

Which proxies should I use for eBay price research?

Residential proxies from the site's country: Germany for ebay.de, the UK for ebay.co.uk, the US for ebay.com. For regular crawling, use the "Rotating (new IP per request)" mode.

Can I see my listing as a buyer from another country sees it?

Yes. Choose the country in the generator and open the local eBay site in a clean profile without signing in: you see the price, shipping and your position in search.

Which proxy do I need for a seller account?

A residential or mobile IP from the account's country in the "Sticky session" mode, in a separate browser profile.

Will a proxy help if my eBay account is restricted?

No. eBay prohibits getting around restrictions with new accounts, and a proxy is not meant for that. Resolve it through the platform's customer service.

Do you guarantee access to eBay through a proxy?

No. The platform sets the access rules, and we have no influence over them.
