SOCKS5
SOCKS5 is a proxy protocol that carries any connection without inspecting its contents.
Unlike an HTTP proxy, SOCKS5 does not look into what exactly is being sent. It simply passes data between the program and the server, so it suits not only websites but also messengers and other apps.
SOCKS5 supports authentication with a username and password. Many programs can also send the site name lookup through it, so that the address is resolved on the proxy side.
SOCKS5 has no clear error codes: when there is a problem, the connection is simply dropped or refused. So it is easier to look for the cause over HTTP.
In Prokso SOCKS5 runs on port 824. See the SOCKS5 proxy page for details.
FAQ
Is SOCKS5 faster than HTTP?
There is no noticeable difference in speed: it depends on the exit address and the site, not on the protocol.
Where is SOCKS5 needed most often?
In messengers and apps that work with more than web pages, and in programs where there is no other option.
