IP whitelist
An IP whitelist is a way to use a proxy without a username and password: the proxy recognizes you by your IP address.
Normally a proxy checks a username and password. With an IP whitelist you list your addresses in advance, and the proxy lets connections from them through without any extra data.
This helps when a program cannot send a username and password and understands only the “host:port” format. This is often the case with browser extensions and old software.
The method works only if your own address is static. If your ISP changes it on every connection, you will have to keep updating the whitelist.
In Prokso you can add up to 5 of your own IP addresses in the plan settings. You can find your current address on the My IP page.
FAQ
Which is more reliable: a whitelist or a password?
Both methods work. A password is more convenient when your address changes; a whitelist is better when a program cannot send a username and password.
How many addresses can I add?
Up to 5 of your own IP addresses per plan.
