Proxy list (line format)

A proxy list is a set of connection lines, where each line contains a host, port, username and password.

Updated · Prokso editorial team

Programs expect lines in different orders: host:port:username:password, username:password@host:port or a full address with the protocol at the start. If the format is wrong, the program mixes up the parts and the proxy "does not work".

The proxy formatter will help you convert lines to the right form. Before loading the whole list, check one line in the proxy checker.

In a backconnect setup, a list often consists of the same host with different ports or different parameters in the username: each line is a separate session or a separate country.

In Prokso the generator in the dashboard builds lines for the chosen country, protocol and format and lets you download the list as a .txt file.

How to build a list for sticky addresses

For a sticky IP, each line must differ by port: gw.prokso.com:10001:LOGIN:PASSWORD, gw.prokso.com:10002:LOGIN:PASSWORD and so on. Every port holds its own address, so a list of 50 ports gives up to 50 addresses at the same time. The country is set in the username, and lines for different countries can be mixed in one list.

For rotation, repeating the line with port 823 or 824 many times gives you nothing new: each request already goes out with a new IP. Such a list only helps when a program needs a certain number of lines to start its threads.

Check the list before loading it

The proxy checker accepts up to 100 lines at once in any format. Look not only at the lines that failed but also at the exit addresses: on sticky IP ports, identical IPs in two lines mean that both lines lead to the same port. For lines with geo, compare the country in the result with the one in the username. Save the working lines separately and check the failed ones again later.

Typical import mistakes

  • A space or tab at the end of a line becomes part of the password, and the proxy answers with 407.
  • A file saved in Windows has \r\n line endings; some programs take \r as the last character of the password.
  • The protocol prefix contradicts the port: socks5:// with port 823 or http:// with port 824.
  • Some programs count an empty line at the end of the file as a broken proxy.

Read how a port holds an address in the article on sticky sessions. If the list is large, split it into parts of 100 lines and check each one separately.

FAQ

Which line format is the most common?

host:port:username:password is accepted by most antidetect browsers and scrapers. Scripts more often expect username:password@host:port.

How do I get many different addresses in a list?

For rotation, one line is enough. For sticky addresses you need lines with different ports or session numbers.
