ASN (autonomous system number)

An ASN is the number of an ISP's or carrier's network on the internet; it shows who an IP address belongs to.

The internet is made up of thousands of separate networks: ISPs, mobile carriers, datacenters, large companies. Each has its own number, an ASN, for example AS15895.

From the ASN a website understands whose address it is and what type it is. A site rates an address from a mobile carrier's network and an address from a datacenter network differently.

In proxies, choosing an ASN lets you get an address from a specific ISP or carrier. This is needed when an account is “used to” one network and a sudden change of ISP raises questions.

In Prokso the ASN is set in the advanced mode of the generator. Traffic with an ASN selected is counted double, and the availability of a network depends on the pool.

FAQ

How do I find the ASN of an address?

IP lookup services show it: the network number and the organization name are listed next to the address.

Do I have to set an ASN?

No. A country or a city is enough for most tasks. An ASN is needed when the network of a specific carrier or ISP matters.

Residential $1.59, mobile $2.50, datacenter $0.80 per GB
