WebRTC leak

A WebRTC leak is when the browser tells a site your real IP address, bypassing the proxy.

WebRTC is a browser technology for calls and video right on a page. To connect two people, the browser finds out its own network addresses and may pass them to the site.

The request for these addresses does not travel the way a normal page load does, and with some settings it bypasses the proxy. The site gets your real address even though the page is opened through a proxy.

You can check this on the WebRTC leak test page: it shows which addresses a site sees.

In antidetect browsers WebRTC usually adjusts to the proxy address automatically. In a regular browser it is turned off with a setting or an extension.

FAQ

How do I know if there is a leak?

Open the WebRTC leak test through the proxy. If the result shows your real address, there is a leak.

Can a leak happen without calls or video?

Yes. A site can request addresses through WebRTC in the background, even if you did not turn anything on.
