4G and 5G

4G and 5G are generations of mobile networks through which mobile proxies connect to the internet.

4G (LTE) and 5G are mobile internet standards. For a website there is almost no difference between them: it sees the carrier's address, not the connection type.

The network generation affects the speed and latency of a particular device. But in mobile proxies, speed also depends on the signal, the cell tower load and the phone or modem itself.

The key property of mobile addresses does not depend on the generation: the carrier shares one address among many subscribers through CGNAT, so websites are careful with such addresses.

Prokso mobile proxies are 4G/5G carrier IPs. See the mobile proxies page for details.

Where the exit address of a mobile proxy comes from

A mobile proxy request leaves the gateway and goes out through a phone or modem with a SIM card. The site receives the address that the carrier gave this device at that moment. The carrier can hand out a new address when the device reconnects to the network, and this does not depend on whether it works in 4G or 5G.

In Prokso a sticky IP of a mobile proxy can therefore change earlier than the holding time you set: if the device has left the network, the port gets a new IP of the same country. Plan your work so that an address change in the middle of a session does not break it.

Which port to choose for mobile addresses

The mode is set by the port, and the country by the username, for example LOGIN__cr.de. The carrier can be chosen in advanced mode by ASN, but traffic with precise geo is counted double.

What does not work over mobile proxies

People often expect a mobile proxy to behave like the SIM card in their own phone. But Prokso does not support UDP, so calls in messengers and online games will not go through it, even on a 5G address. Mail ports are closed too, so sending mail through the proxy will not work.

After setup, open the My IP page in the same profile or browser: it should show the country from the username, not yours. Plans and countries of the mobile pool are collected on the mobile proxies page.

FAQ

Can a website see that an address is from 5G?

Usually not. The site sees the carrier and the mobile network, but the network generation cannot be determined from the address.

Is a 5G proxy faster?

The network itself is faster, but the real speed of a proxy also depends on the signal, the tower and the device.
